Nick Miller: TREE HOUSE 360°June 16th — August 18th 2011 Opening Reception: Concord Art Association Working from a 25' high tree house platform at the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation in Connecticut, Miller painted a 360 degree portrait of the woods over 2 months of the Fall of 2009, Made up of 27 linked panels. Inspired in part by reading Henry David Thoreau's "Walden" while working. This year's theme is "Henry David Thoreau's Environmental Ethos: Then and Now" . A special event takes place at 5pm July 10th in the Concord Art Association's Member Gallery. Distinguished critical theorist of American painting, Barbara Novak- a Barnard & Columbia Professor of Art History holds a public conversation with the artist, Nick MIller. Barbara Novak's celebrated trilogy on American Art and culture, features a special chapter on Thoreau. The discussion is chaired by the renowned New York based, Irish artist, critic and author Brian O'Doherty (formerly known as Patrick Ireland). Limited seating, booking required.
